Director, General Manager

Harry Schulz commenced duties with SFK Australia in 1998. In May 1999 he was appointed to the position of Australian director by our parent company SFK Systems A/S Denmark.

In addition to my statutory duties as director, Harry was responsible for all operations of the company. His responsibilities included: hiring and directing SFK staff, developing new markets, introducing new products and managing grant applications. He sold and managed the commissioning of a specialised range of new technology equipment. Plus due to Harry's extensive experience within the meat industry, he carried out external fee-for-service consulting and training work.

Manager – Equipment Sales

(Based in Melbourne but responsible for Australia-wide consultancy support)

Harry was responsible for development, sales and commissioning of AMT's equipment and attended various industry trade fairs both within Australia and overseas.

Visiting meat plants across Australia, he was also responsible for the identification, development and implementation of hygienic slaughtering and dressing techniques for both export and domestic processors. This enabled companies to increase yield and productivity. Dealing with plant personnel at all levels, he assisted in the introduction of quality assurance programs for hygienic processing. This included ergonomic movement as required under OH&S standards.

Harry regularly attended the meat industry's CEO's conferences to keep abreast of industry's requirements within the areas of his expertise.

Swan Hill Abattoir (Ashton Pty Ltd), Swan Hill, Victoria
Plant Manager

Harry was in charge of all plant operations, livestock handling, smallsock slaughtering, beef slaughtering, boning operations, offal packing and load out.

August 1993 – February 1994
Liberty Meat Exports (Aust) Pty Ltd, Northcote, Victoria
Works Manager

Harry was in charge of all production stages including boning, mechanically-derived meat, freezers and soft-fat rendering. Included in his duties were the implementation of Quality Assurance programs and responsibility for the works Occupational Health and Safety programs.

Hardwick's Meatworks Pty Ltd, Kyneton, Victoria
Quality Assurance and Training Manager

Harry was employed to initiate a Quality Assurance program for the entire works, involving livestock handling, beef and mutton slaughtering, offal processing, chilling requirements, mutton boning operations and load out procedures.

September 1964 – June 1992
R J Gilbertson Pty Ltd, North Altona, Victoria

Harry's initial duties were in the boning and offal rooms, carrying out labouring duties. He then progressed to beef slaughtering and later learned mutton and pig slaughtering. During his nine years as a Slaughterman he became very competent at all tasks.

In 1973 Harry became a Foreman, on the beef slaughter floor and was later promoted to Senior Foreman in charge of slaughtering.

The position of Senior Foreman in charge of slaughtering required total involvement with each days' production needs, working closely and communicating clearly with the livestock department and boning rooms. Harry Schulz is fully aware of export requirements, having gone through numerous USDA and EU reviews and he is familiar with Hal-al requirements.

Harry was also responsible for the day-to-day management of industrial relations and supervision of approximately 100 employees.

During his last two years with R J Gilbertson, he played a prominent part in introducing a Product Quality Arrangement. This was achieved by working closely with AQIS Meat Inspectors and Veterinary Officers. Harry is fully versed in all AQIS procedural requirements.
